OS X and memory

Somewhat disappointing: my iBook still swaps even with 640 Mb of RAM. It’s a lot less noticeable, ie, no spinning beach ball of death every so often.

I also gave up on FireFox today after one too many times of 100% CPU utilization and no recourse but

white:~ paul$ killall firefox-bin

We’ll see how Safari feels after a long absence.

You’ve voiced my own concern. I’m a big fan of Firefox. But on my Powerbook it grinds a heck of a lot. I’ve tried to ignore it, pretned it’s not happening if I’m honest, but I’ve got Photoshop open at the minute and it’s just too much. Think I’m going to follow your lead and try Safari for a bit.

A new version of Safari just “shipped” today (via Software Update): hope it’s even better.

  3. I’ve noticed a correlation between pages containing Flash and Firefox using 100% CPU. You might try FlashBlock.

Huh. That’s interesting. I do miss a couple of features of the ‘Fox (multiple search engines, speed, type-ahead find) so that may be worth trying.

    Thanks for the note.
