TiVo boxes are Linux PCs, and there are plenty of hacks. This seems to be a good starting place:

The older ones (Series 1) were more amenable to hacking, and the Series 2 line is less so. I’ll see if I have covered that thread in my hasty researches.
Like so many of these hacking projects, the information is scattered and piecemeal.
