Have you checked out the Dashboard’s VM size? It’s horrendous! I disabled mine when I realized I could just bookmark Web pages for everything I was getting from and have my browser do an “open all bookmarks in this folder in separate tabs” thing in less time and memory.
If I want to use an actual application, like a calculator, I just open it. (Or if I already have a shell open I use Perl or wcalc.) I have a feeling the Dashboard is handy if you have 16GB of RAM, but as I don’t, my machine has been snappier since ditching it.
Righteous. I’ve just done it. I have the weather in a GreaseMonkey statusbar and I can look up the rest of the stuff I need.
