real life intrudes

My father has been in town these past few days for his granddaughter’s 5th birthday, so I’ve been out in the Big Room with the blue ceiling more than usual.

Adventure abounds:

  • School jogathon fundraiser on Friday, with my young athletes running 14 laps between them
  • Trip to Mt Rainier National Park, with a climb to 6500 feet (OK, we started at 5400: so what? My climbing party ranged in age from 4 to 72.) and the attendant fatigue and awe (the glaciers are amazing to see)
  • The Apple Store at University Village opened Friday, and we went (we had to hit the grocery store and when we saw the line was gone, we figured it was safe to go in). A clean, well-lighted place, crammed with enthusiasts, and at least one G5 outfit on a hardcart ready to go home with someone
  • Birthday party today with dinner for 8, salmon on the grill, veggies, and cake. Neighbor came over with a whole salmon, cleaned and ready to . . . . . we didn’t know what, so she offered to filet it for us. We had half for dinner, along with the other salmon we already had in hand, and sent the rest home with our nephew and his partner. Tons of presents, Barbie overkill . . . .
  • and I applied for a couple of jobs, in hopes of one day having a reason to look forward to getting out of bed
